I want to highlight a fantastic pose today. My favourite pose for feeling strong.
Warrior 2 or Virabhadrasana 2.
Warrior 2 is a strong pose and is very beneficial for our strength and our vitality. Yoga is amazing for any period of our lives for everybody.
A well balanced class is always going to benefit our bodies at any age.
Some of the benefits of Warrior 2 are:
strengthens and tones the legs and buttocks.
helps to relieve cramps in the lower back, while strengthening the lower back at the same time.
Helps to keeps the lungs healthy because the chest cavity is very open.
Strengthens and stretches the legs and ankles
Stretches the groins, chest and lungs, shoulders Stimulates abdominal organs
Increases stamina
Therapeutic for carpal tunnel syndrome, flat feet, osteoporosis, and sciatica.
If you have difficulty supporting yourself in this pose, position a metal folding chair outside your left leg, with the front edge of the chair seat facing you.
As you bend the left knee to come into the pose, slide the front edge of the seat under your left thigh (taller students may need to build up the height of the chair seat with a thickly folded blanket).
Repeat with the right leg bent.
If you find this pose difficult in the beginning then this is normal. The more you practice the easier your yoga will become and you will see the benefits.
Remember that it takes 4-6 weeks to form a habit.
Be patient with yourself and you will fall in love with yoga.
