Increase your bone strength with balance.
The statistics are frightening.
60% of Australians over 50 suffer from weak bones.
STRONG BONES WITHOUT WEIGHTS. More than 60% of Australians over 50 suffer from weak bones.
I concentrate a lot on including balancing exercises in all my classes.
Here are some of the reasons:
When you isolate weight bearing on one leg you increase the pressure on your bones and help to strengthen them.
In tree pose, you strengthen your hips, knees, calves, and ankles and improve your posture and alignment.
Stand on one leg for just a minute each day.
Make sure you stand on each leg equally.
You will notice you always have a preferred leg. Your balance is usually better on one side than the other. This is normal but try not to give into your weaker side.
Balance is not just a physical thing. Balance also refers to your emotional, mental, and physical being.
Yoga helps to strengthen and also stretches tight muscles while challenging your static and dynamic balance skills. We have many different poses in yoga that achieve this.
"Yoga teaches us how to listen to our bodies"
I love this quote:
Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.
