I AM LAUNCHING AN KIDS YOGA 8 WEEK PROGRAM.
What is involved with Wendy's 8 week kids yoga program?
My kids yoga program consists of 8 weeks.
Each week there will be a new link to a 45 minute online pre recorded class.
The links will not expire so you can replay them over and over.
My classes are divided into 4 sections: 1. different techniques of deep yoga breath 5-10 minutes, 2. warm up exercises approximately 5 minutes, 3. body of the class, approximately 20-25 minutes, 4. relaxation/meditation approximately 5 minutes.
Each week is different however each week builds on the week before and adds layers and some repetition in some areas, building variety but still familiarity and imprinting the memory and learnings from previous weeks.
WHY IS THIS A GREAT PROGRAM?
Children do well with repetition and because the links do not expire you can use them in all different ways. I always have a format with my classes. An introduction, warm up, body of the class, relaxation to finish.
If you only have 10-15 minutes available then you may want to focus on one area of the class.
You may want to bring some calmness at the end of a busy day or a very active activity so a yoga breathing technique at the start of one of the classes may be perfect.
I have attached a 10 minute teaser. The teaser is a segment of one of the classes that I taught to students recently. I re-emphasize some of the earlier foundation work that I have done in previous lessons and add onto poses that are already familiar.
Another way you can bring calmness is to help the children relax with the last approximately 5 minutes of relaxation/meditation. Each week is different, some are visualisations, some talk about gratitude, so there is usually a little message.
WHY IS THIS A GREAT WAY OF LEARNING?
Repetition builds confidence and confidence has so many carry over effects to so many other areas of our lives. Over the 8 week program I teach the children 42 different poses including a lot of variations.
I teach them that yoga is like building a house, that you build from the foundation. Like with building a house you start with the walls, floor, roof and then you add on all the fancy bits.
We have a lot of strong foundation poses in yoga that build strength, endurance and flexibility. Once they know these poses then it is a lot easier to add the variations on top.
The small sample that I have attached is week 5 of a grade 5 student class I ran during lockdown. I had been working with these students in person and then during lockdown/remote learning we took some of the classes on line.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?
The program is $80 in total.
Each 45 minute class link will be sent each week for 8 weeks.
