First of all what is a healthy immune system?



The immune system is so important for us to fight all the infections that come our way. The immune system can recognise millions of different antigens. Antigens are substances that invade our body, bacteria, viruses, chemicals, toxins, pollens (any of these are antigens). The immune system can produce what it needs to eradicate nearly all of them. When it is working properly our defence system can keep a lot of health problems at bay.


How can we strengthen our immune system?


  1. Choose a healthy lifestyle.

  2. Eat a diet that is high in fruits and vegetables and eat well for your gut. 80% of your immune system is located in you digestive system. Keep your stomach happy.

  3. Exercise regularly. All types of exercise. The greater the variety the better. Find an exercise that you enjoy. Important to do weight bearing exercises to keep your body strong.

  4. Do yoga and deep breathing exercises and meditation.

  5. Maintain a healthy weight.

  6. If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.

  7. Get adequate sleep.

  8. minimise stress.

  9. take steps to avoid infection. Washing you hands regularly.

  10. Enjoy a moderate exposure to sunlight. Very important to get you Vitamin D.
